Friends of the Parrot Sanctuary Society was established in 2001 with the aim of supporting Parrot Island Sanctuary in Peachland, providing financial and other support to the Sanctuary. It is a registered society and has authority to provide charitable tax receipts. All donations are tax detuctable.
Fundraising is continuous as it is extremely costly to feed, house and provide veterinary care for 85 & more parrots! Voluteers from the Society also help to clean the bird house and prepare the birds' special diets, conduct tours of the bird house, do gardening and yard work and put together work parties for specific projects. Every fall voluteers collect hazelnuts and walnuts from people in the area with trees. Our voluteers report that they really enjoy working in the group. A newsletter is published to keep members updated of the latest happenings at the sanctuary and our progress in raising funds.
We are always looking for new members/voluteers to assist. If you are interested in helping the Sanctuary/Society, please contact Ray at parrotisland@shaw.ca
| Kim Todd - a volunteer at Parrot Island who helped out most sincerely. Sadly and tragically, Kim passed away this summer and is missed much. Kim was an amazing lady who had an incredible love for animals and spent many hours volunteering her time at our Parrot Sanctuary in Peachland as well as at other places - her loss to us and to society is huge. ![]() Please do visit the Parrot Island Homepage at www.parrotisland.net |
